When deciding what to fuel your body with, think about what you are going to do for the day. Are you going to be sitting around at a desk, are you going to be active, do you know when your next meal is going to happen? These factors should all be addressed when you decide what to eat.
Today I chose to go with some nutritious whole grains and a smoothie loaded with vitamins and minerals. It's raining here today, the kids are at school and i'm sure collecting some lovely germs to bring home to share. I knew I wasn't going to have a super busy day either. I have a few clients, LOADS of computer work so I don't need anything to fill me up too much. I will be home most of the day so will be sure to get my morning snack and lunch in to me before the after school rush.
Here is what my breakfast bowl included:
1.5 cups organic whole grain, certified gluten-free oats
2 tbsp flax seeds
1 tbsp hemp hearts
1/2 cup homemade apple sauce (no sugar added)
1/4 cup shredded coconut
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Here is what my smoothie included:
1 can organic unsweetened coconut water
1 tbsp flax seeds
3 tbsps hemp hearts
1 ripe banana
1 cup fresh frozen local blueberries
1/2 cup dark cherries
1/2 cup frozen mango
1/2 cup frozen greens (Kale, spinach, swiss chard)
These two breakfast items will keep me nice and full and help ensure I am eating my way towards the recommendations set out by the Canada Food Guide to get all my nutrients for the day!
